What is a torque wrench?
As you may know, a torque wrench is a tool used to tighten nuts and bolts to a predetermined tightness, or torque value. Torque is the measure of how much a force on an object (like a nut) causes it to rotate, with the pivot point being the axis the object rotates on. Torque is typically measured in either lb·ft (pound-foot) or lb·in (pound inch).
By accurately measuring torque, a torque wrench allows fasteners to be tightened quickly to the proper tension, helping avoid damage from over-tightening or from joints coming apart from under tightening. In many situations, applying the correct torque measure is important for the reliable safety, assembly, and performance of equipment of all kinds.
