QWIM-1 Cardinal High-speed Quartz In-motion Vehicle Scale

Cardinal’s QWIM-1 High-Speed Quartz In-Motion Vehicle Scale utilizes two 1.5 m long Kistler LINEAS© quartz sensors embedded in the pavement to accurately measure the axle weights of passing vehicles. Using the sensor signals, this precision scale is able to measure the axle spacing and vehicle speed. The scale produces a vehicle weight record that includes the vehicle axle weights, gross weight, speed, axle spacing, vehicle classification, time and date and vehicle record number. When properly installed in pavement meeting basic requirements, the QWIM-1 will meet or exceed performance requirements for a Type 3 In-Motion Scale as defined in ASTM E1318-09. This scale is perfect for weighing vehicles travelling at speeds up to 80 mph. The flush mounted sensors offer no obstruction to passing snow plows and are stable over temperature. The scale can be installed in one or more lanes, normally in one day with only an 8-hour lane closure.

QWIM-2 Cardinal High-speed Quartz In-motion Vehicle Scale

Cardinal’s QWIM-2 High-Speed Quartz In-Motion Vehicle Scale utilizes four 1.5 m long Kistler LINEAS© quartz sensors embedded in the pavement to accurately measure the axle weights of passing vehicles. This scale model uses two more sensors than the QWIM-1 which provides improved accuracy and sensor redundancy. Using the sensor signals, this precision scale is able to measure the axle spacing and vehicle speed. The scale produces a vehicle weight record that includes the vehicle axle weights, gross weight, speed, axle spacing, vehicle classification, time and date and vehicle record number. When properly installed in pavement meeting basic requirements, the QWIM-2 will meet or exceed performance requirements for a Type 3 In-Motion Scale as defined in ASTM E1318-09. The scale can be installed in one or more lanes, normally in one day with only an 8-hour lane closure.

SWIM-1 Cardinal Slow-speed Load Cell In-motion Vehicle Scale

The Cardinal SWIM-1 consists of a welded steel weighbridge supported by four 50,000 pound capacity stainless steel compression strain gauge load cells and is used to provide accurate axle weights at slow speeds up to 10 mph. The Cardinal Model 825 weight indicator measures each axle weight as the vehicle crosses the platform then displays each axle weight and the gross vehicle weight. If desired, the scale can be used in a static mode for increased accuracy. Equipped with optional axle sensors, the scale can also measure vehicle speed and axle spacing to determine classification. This scale model is commonly used in the dynamic mode to identify over weight vehicles the used in the static mode for enforcement weighing. The Cardinal SCA series load cells used in this scale have been used successfully for over 25 years in full-length Cardinal truck scales and the combined 200,000 pound capacity of the load cells ensure that it’s up to the task of weighing any over-the-road vehicle.

PWIM-1 Cardinal High-speed Piezo-based In-motion Vehicle Scale

The Cardinal PWIM-1 is a single lane in-motion scale using two full-length piezoelectric WIM-grade axle sensors. This scale uses the same CVM Series Cardinal In-Motion Scale used in our higher performance QWIM series of in-motion scale. Included with the PWIM series scale is a pavement temperature sensor to compensate for the changes in output of the piezoelectric sensors with temperature. This scale provides axle weight, gross weight, axle spacing, speed, vehicle number and time and date for each passing vehicle. The accuracy of this scale is less than that of the QWIM series providing a typical error of +/- 20% on a single axle. Axle group weights and gross weight errors are better.
